Birmingham City Council Bereavement Services manages 11 cemeteries and 3 crematoria across the city. The Peripatetic Cemetery Operative supports the Head of Bereavement Services, Registrars, and Cemetery teams in providing burials 364 days a year and meeting statutory requirements on a day‑to‑day basis. The role includes deputising for the Foreperson and supporting efficient, discreet services. Weekend and Bank Holiday working is required, rotating 5 days in 7 to support operational requirements at Sutton New Hall or other cemeteries/crematoria with weekend/Bank Holiday Service.
As a Peripatetic role covering the entire Birmingham area, the successful candidate must work flexibly, hold a full driving licence, and demonstrate physical resilience and good customer service skills in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Provide support to the Head of Bereavement Services, Registrars and Cemetery teams in the daily provision of burials and statutory requirements.
