An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Adult Placement Worker to join our Shared Lives Team in Birmingham. Shared Lives offers citizens aged 18 plus the opportunity to live with a family in their family home, respite or day opportunities, allowing them to develop their skills, be valued, involved in their community and gain confidence to become as independent as possible. The recruitment of Shared Lives carers across Birmingham and Solihull will mean Shared Lives is an amazing alternative to Supported Living or Residential Care.

The Shared Lives Service is on an exciting transformation journey, and you will be part of a team who by working collaboratively with social care workers, wider partners and communities will continue to build and shape the Shared Lives offer. We are looking for dynamic, flexible, person‑centred, compassionate people who have the zest and energy to inspire those around them, who are authentic and have a sense of purpose, driving positive change.

As an Adult Placement Worker, you will play a key role in developing, supporting and monitoring both respite and long‑term adult placements for adults with disabilities. No two days are the same, but your impact will always be clear.

You will:

  • Recruit, assess and train Adult Placement Carers
  • Support carers through regular supervision, guidance and involvement in support groups
  • Monitor placement quality in line with the Care Standards Act 2000 and Adult Placement Schemes (England) Regulations 2004
  • Carry out person‑centred reviews with service users to promote independence and inclusion
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, partner agencies, carers and community organisations
  • Keep accurate records, produce reports, and help shape service development
  • Promote our service through presentations and community engagement
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and service issues

About you:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with adults with disabilities
  • NVQ Level 4 in Care (or equivalent)
  • Experience working in the community and with partner agencies
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to write high‑quality reports
  • Understanding of the social model of disability, person‑centred planning, and equality principles
  • Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
  • A commitment to anti‑oppressive and inclusive practice
