Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Marston Green Junior School is seeking an Attendance Secretary. This key role focuses on improving pupil attendance and punctuality, working closely with a member of the Senior Leadership Team and the Education Welfare Officer.

Pay Band C: £25,992 (8) to £28,624 (14) pro rata. Actual salary will range between £22,995 and £25,323. Hours: 37 hours, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM Monday‑Friday (term time only) plus INSET Days.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyse pupil attendance data to identify patterns, risks and emerging concerns.
  • Work closely with the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) and maintain regular liaison with a member of the SLT regarding individual pupils where attendance is a concern.
  • Organise and contribute to attendance panels and meetings with families to address attendance issues.
  • Maintain robust systems for tracking, monitoring and reviewing attendance for pupils causing concern.
  • Ensure accurate and up‑to‑date pupil registration records are maintained at all times.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date records, communication and monitoring for pupils within identified target groups for improving attendance.
  • Support the administration and processing of penalty notice warnings and leave of absence requests, in line with statutory guidance and in partnership with the Education Welfare Officer.
  • Ensure timely and clear communication with parents, carers and relevant professionals regarding attendance expectations and concerns.
  • Show high standard of administrative and clerical knowledge and skills, as well as computer and organisational skills.
  • Maintain a calm, resilient approach within a busy school environment.
  • Communicate with pupils, colleagues, parents and outside agencies.
  • Be an excellent team player and work well in a busy, school environment.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, responding to enquiries or directing calls appropriately.
  • Greet all school visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Provide high‑quality administrative and reception support.
Qualifications
  • Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel essential.
  • Experience with SIMS is desirable; training will be provided.
  • Enhanced DBS check required.
