Overview
Birmingham City Council is seeking an Assistant Community Library Connector for the WMJobs platform. This is a Permanent role, working 36.5 hours per week, with a pay range of £24,796 – £26,824 (Consultation grade subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review).
This vacancy is only available to Birmingham City Council employees. DBS check and right-to-work verification are required for all applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for residents, supporting access to holistic services including finance, housing, employment skills, education, and well-being.
- Promote digital inclusion by helping residents build digital skills and confidence.
- Deliver a high-quality library service in line with national standards and legislation.
- Issue, return, and maintain library materials; handle cash transactions; and support administrative tasks.
- Promote literacy, cultural activities, study and homework support tailored to community needs.
- Build relationships with local stakeholders and community partners; develop a network of services and activities for residents.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold council service standards.
- Participate in training and take responsibility for personal development.
- Work flexibly across community settings, including evenings and weekends; hold keyholder responsibilities for library openings and closures.
- Commit to continuous professional development to enhance service quality.
- Note: there is a requirement to work alternate Saturdays; Saturday-only roles are also available.
