Herefordshire Council is seeking an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join its Community Wellbeing team. The role is based at Plough Lane, involves full-time hours (37 per week, 09:00 – 17:00) with no requirement to work out of hours unless chosen for an out‑of‑hours rota. Salary is £40,777 – £45,091 per annum plus a £3,000 welcome payment. The closing date for applications is 20th May 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside skilled colleagues to assess, triage and manage referrals in accordance with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and safeguarding legislation.
  • Produce and review AMHP reports, attend supervised meetings, and participate in regular team discussions.
  • Maintain professional autonomy while engaging in reflective practice and peer support, ensuring no decision is made in isolation.
  • Contribute to the protection of human rights for vulnerable individuals and support staff wellbeing through manageable rotas and protected supervision.
  • Carry out legal decisions, including detention orders, and liaise with healthcare teams and other stakeholders.
  • Employ continuous learning, including specialist training and potential leadership development within the service.

Qualifications

  • Qualified AMHP with a minimum of one year of AMHP practice and experience assessing a range of client groups.
  • Strong commitment to the human rights of those we work with, with demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and safeguarding.
