Our apprenticeships offer real-world training, career progression opportunities, and the chance to work alongside experienced professionals in a supportive environment. The programme is open to all and designed to help you build a successful future in local government.

  • Assist in undertaking general repair and maintenance tasks to public offices, public conveniences, open spaces, car parks and other Council-maintained buildings and areas.
  • Help undertake minor works of a general building and/or civil engineering nature and ensure areas are made safe and secure throughout a works programme.
  • Assist in providing maintenance cover and support to all Departments of the Council.
  • Be a key holder.
  • Set and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency in all activities undertaken.

  • Maintenance & Repairs: Assist with general repairs, maintenance tasks, and minor works across Council facilities, including public buildings and car parks.
  • Operational Support: Help source materials, supervise minor contractors, and respond to urgent maintenance needs efficiently.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work completed, including time, materials, and inspection data.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with staff across departments to minimise disruption and support the effective delivery of services.

What You’ll Need

  • Willingness to Learn: Enthusiastic about undertaking apprenticeship training and developing new skills in building maintenance.
  • Communication & IT Skills: Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English, with basic IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Practical Abilities: Some experience or knowledge of minor works, with good organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Physical Requirements: Physically fit, able to work in confined spaces, and confident using hand tools and machinery.
  • Flexibility & Responsibility: Holds a full, clean driving licence and is willing to attend emergency callouts outside normal hours.
