Fire Engineer

Station Commander/Professional 1A - £53,460 - £55,494

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest metropolitan fire service in the UK. Our purpose, Making the West Midlands Safer, underpins everything we do, and we are committed to continually improving and striving for excellence across all areas of our work.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our specialist Fire Engineering Team within the Protection Department. The team delivers all fire engineering and Primary Authority Scheme (PAS) related work on behalf of WMFS. This includes the assessment of fire‑engineered design solutions as part of the Building Regulations consultation process for major and complex developments across the West Midlands, as well as supporting partner organisations through the PAS.

The Role

The successful candidates will have attained a level 6 Fire Engineering Degree and have experience in evaluating fire‑engineered solutions within the built environment or are currently undertaking the graduate Fire Engineering Degree.

We currently have one permanent vacancy in the team. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with strong communication skills, who can build and maintain effective working relationships with internal colleagues, external authorities, and third‑party professionals.

Applications are welcome from both Grey Book and Green Book staff. Successful Grey Book applicants will remain on Grey Book terms and conditions but will be paid on Green Book pay. Where appropriate, Grey Book candidates will be supported in developing towards competence in EFSM Level 2.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates will have attained a level 6 Fire Engineering Degree or are currently undertaking under graduate Fire Engineering Degree.
