West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - London Northwestern Railways & West Midlands Railways. As part of this, we are recruiting an Operations Team Leader, on a full-time, permanent basis, based in Shrewsbury.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible to Operations Manager for supervision of shunting.
- All movements and cleaning activities within Depot limits, and that Quality Control and Safety Standards are met and maintained.
- Responsible for the allocation and control of trains to ensure efficient and punctual service is maintained.
- Liaise with relevant controls, to ensure service requirements are met, liaise with Team Leader and Team Managers to ensure priorities are known and met.
- Responsible for allocation of work to all subordinate staff, control and discipline of staff, SCWR Regulations, Rules and Regulations, Sickness Monitoring, booking on and off of staff, compliance and control of rosters, fitness for duty.
- Development / One to One/ Team Briefs / Safety Meetings.
- Responsible for reporting of trains to Control, Network Rail, Team Manager and the Operations Manager.
- Responsible for enforcement of SCWR, Network Rail, Group Standards, Rule Book, COSHH and local Safety and Quality Standards.
- Shunting Duties as required.
- Maintain and compile records as required.
- Allocation of work, control and motivation within a team of staff.
- Advise and support as necessary.
- Carry out first line management actions with respect to Poor Performance, attendance monitoring, discipline, accident reporting and investigation etc.
- Control of contractors.

To ensure continuity and an effective delivery of service, successful candidates will be required to commit to a minimum 14-month period in role after achieving competence. This also includes existing colleagues who move by internal promotions and transfers.
