We are seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial and commercially minded Head of Business Development to play a pivotal role in strengthening the College’s long-term sustainability, resilience and impact. This role is advertised as a 2-Year Fixed-Term Contract. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced business development professional to lead the identification, development and delivery of new and diversified income streams that align with the College’s mission, values and public benefit purpose.

Reporting directly to the Principal, you will drive innovation, forge strategic partnerships and develop commercially viable opportunities that enhance our educational offer and create lasting value for learners and the wider community.

About the Role

As Head of Business Development, you will provide strategic leadership for the College’s income generation activities, identifying opportunities that support sustainable growth while remaining true to our educational ethos. Working closely with the Principal and senior leaders, you will build, manage and deliver a pipeline of business opportunities from initial concept through to negotiation, implementation and revenue generation. A key aspect of the role will be building and maintaining productive relationships with employers, local authorities, cultural organisations, community partners, sector bodies and other stakeholders connected to adult education, skills and lifelong learning.

About You

We are looking for a proactive and strategic leader with a strong track record of developing successful partnerships and generating sustainable income. You will have:

  • Significant experience in identifying and developing business proposals, leading to sustainable income generation, partnerships or commercial opportunities.
  • Experience of building and managing external partnerships, including negotiating with a range of external stakeholders; that generate measurable value, income or strategic benefit.
  • Good understanding of commercial risk, due diligence and the importance of balancing income generation with organisational purpose and reputation.
  • Excellent networking, relationship-building and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Knowledge of the education, skills, public, voluntary or cultural sectors would be advantageous.
