We are looking for an experienced and motivated Milling Team Leader to oversee the day-to-day operation of our milling department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring production targets, quality standards, safety requirements, and team performance are consistently achieved within a fast-paced engineering environment. The successful candidate will lead by example, supporting and developing the team while maintaining high standards of machining, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support the milling team on a day-to-day basis
  • Set workloads and priorities to ensure production schedules are achieved
  • Operate, set, and programme CNC milling machines where required
  • Ensure all work is completed to engineering drawings and quality specifications
  • Monitor productivity, efficiency, scrap levels, and downtime
  • Conduct first-off inspections and support quality checks throughout production
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures and company policies
  • Support training and development of team members, including apprentices and new starters
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Planning, and Engineering departments
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve performance and reduce waste
  • Manage absence, conduct, and performance issues in line with company procedures
  • Ensure machines and work areas are maintained to a high housekeeping standard
  • Support shift handovers and communication across departments

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience within a CNC milling/manufacturing environment
  • Experience leading or supervising a production or machining team
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and machining tolerances
  • Ability to set and operate CNC milling machinery
  • Knowledge of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining techniques
  • Excellent communication and people management skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workloads effectively
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Siemens controls
  • Apprenticeship or engineering qualification
  • Experience working within precision engineering or heavy manufacturing
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement knowledge
