About the Role
Shape the future of local government finance in Wales. The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) is looking for a highly motivated Senior Policy Officer (Revenues & Benefits) to play a key role in influencing policy and supporting councils across Wales at a time of major reform. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of national policy—supporting local authorities on local taxation, welfare reform and benefits policy, and helping to drive forward critical programmes that impact communities across Wales.
What you’ll do
- Lead on local taxation reform and devolved taxes
- Drive delivery of the Welsh Benefits Charter and related programmes
- Provide expert advice, briefings and analysis to senior leaders and elected members
- Work closely with local authorities, Welsh Government and UK partners to influence policy and practice
- Monitor and respond to developments in welfare reform and public finance
What we’re looking for
- Strong knowledge of local government finance, taxation and benefits systems
- Experience of policy development, analysis and stakeholder engagement
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at senior level
- Politically aware, analytical, and confident working across complex programmes
- Able to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work at pace
