Job Description
The role is predominately site based (circa) 3 days per week and you will be expected to travel throughout UK as required. The remaining (circa) 2 days you will work out of our UK head office in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire.
1. Key role objective:
The principal function of this position is to champion a proactive safety, health and environmental culture across all project site operations and management by providing expert guidance, and support. The SHE Advisor will work collaboratively with site teams, leadership, and stakeholders advising on legislative requirements and adherence to company standards, enabling the business to make continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental stewardship.
2. SALARY: £38,000 – £40,000 per annum + Car + Generous Benefits (see below)

Operations Manager and their Drilling & Yard Managers and Project Managers, HR Manager and their admin support team, UK Managing Director and WJ Group Chief Operations Officer
4.Key areas of responsibility:
-Developing and Implementing SHE Policies:
- Creating, updating, and ensuring the implementation of safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
-Risk Assessment:
- Identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and developing control measures to mitigate those risks.
-Incident Investigation:
- Investigating workplace, SHE incidents and events
- Ensure corrective actions are taken, and learning opportunities identified and shared.
-Training and Education:
- Develop and delivering training to employees on safety procedures, hazard awareness, and best practices.
-Monitoring and Auditing:
- Conduct regular SHE inspections and audits across UK project sites, head office and yard facilities to ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
- Preparing reports and recommendations to identify and highlight SHE performance gaps, identify root causes and advise on corrective actions.
-Advising on Legal Compliance:
- Provide expert guidance on relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, site arrangements and standards, while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of SHE hazards and control measures.
-Promoting a Positive Safety Culture:
- Encouraging a proactive safety culture among employees and management.
- Supporting managers in implementing safety initiatives.
- Provide consistent and accurate HSE advice to employees
- Produce and communicate safety alerts following incidents to promote learning and prevention
- Environmental Management: Implementing and monitoring environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and promoting sustainable practices.

- Ensuring that quality control processes are in place to maintain standards and minimise risks.
- The above is not exhaustive and you will be expected to undertake any other duties which may reasonably fall within your level of responsibility and competence. - Assist in the development of the Integrated Management System
- Administer IMS procedures and ensure objectives and targets are met.
- Liaise with the company auditors and ensure execution of corrective actions.
Collaborate across UK business units-including Accounts, HR, design/technical, sales/marketing, drilling, monitoring, and environmental services to build strong cross-functional relationships to support financial objectives.
5.Qualifications & Experience:
A motivated and hardworking individual with great written and communication skills is essential.:
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in the construction industry is essential, with proven competence in supporting projects and teams
- Professional qualification e.g. Tech IOSH and Level 3 NEBOSH General/NVQ.
- Extensive experience in a civil engineering environment with solid grasp of SHE regulations and site practices
- Excellent communicator and interpersonal skills. both written and verbal, including confident client-facing engagement.
- Strong presentation and report writing capabilities, with high standard of written English
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret technical data and regulations
- Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively
- Proficient telephone manner and experience liaising with staff at all organisational levels.
- Competent in Microsoft Office package
- Holds valid CSCS Safety Professional card
- Demonstrates initiative and resourcefulness, capable of working independently and as a part of a team.
- High quality standards, e.g. attention to detail

Working Conditions
