Experience in manual labor or construction work, including heavy lifting, adherence to safety protocols, teamwork, and problem-solving skills is an advantage.
SALARY: Β£26,520 per annum / Β£12.75 per Hour + Vehicle + Generous Benefits
- Vehicle: A fully expensed company van with a fuel card may be available but for business use only.
- Pension: Automatically enrolled into the WJ Salary Sacrifice Pension Scheme. Contributions are made at 5% for both employee (minimum) and employer (maximum).

Key role objective: The principal functions of this position are to assist in carrying out environmental/geotechnical monitoring and sampling along with the associated administrative and reporting duties. WJ Groundwater offers an extensive training and development program which will commence after individuals complete their probationary period. Company induction, initial basic training & PPE issue will be provided from commencement of your employment. A suitable vehicle will also be provided.
Reports / Responsible to: Project Manager Monitoring & Technical (Line Manager)
Key areas of responsibility: The activities below are to be carried out in a trainee capacity while learning from experienced colleagues.
- Attend site to obtain groundwater & surface water samples.
- Operate sampling equipment.
- Liaising with third parties to arrange site access.
- Liaise with testing laboratories, to arrange testing of samples, delivery of consumables.
- Manage data from laboratories.
- Other Geo-technical monitoring requirements associated with our works.
- Liaise with clients.
Qualifications & Experience: No formal qualifications or experience are required. Although a motivated and hardworking individual with a βget stuck inβ attitude is essential for this position. Interest in environmental monitoring and earth sciences. Ability to use computer for email, MS Word and Excel. A valid driving license, a vehicle will be provided. Awareness of geotechnical sampling and testing is not required but considered an asset. Site experience useful, but not essential. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills and written communication skills. Resourcefulness, initiative, and the ability to work unsupervised. Demonstrate problem solving skills and a practical mindset. A motivated and hardworking individual is essential for this position. The position requires the candidate to hold a full valid UK driving license.
Working Conditions: Working with WJ colleagues and our clients associated with groundwater monitoring in both outdoor & indoor environments. Site locations are predominantly scattered over an 80km stretch between Aylesbury and Royal Leamington Spa. The candidate will need to travel between these sites and, on occasion, to other locations when coverage is required. Flexibility to travel throughout the UK is beneficial.
Physical Requirements: The job role is physically demanding in that you will need to carry equipment and sampling containers over short distances often in outdoor environments in all weather conditions.
