Overview

Are you an experienced Health, Safety, Quality, Environmental Advisor (HSEQ) looking to work for an award‑winning organisation? At WJ we take the health, safety and wellbeing of all our people very seriously. This role is key to driving a culture of safety, quality, and sustainability across our operations. We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable HSQE Advisor with experience in the construction/highways sector who will be based in the South‑East supporting our depots in Croydon, Reading, Braintree & Herne Bay and will be based in Croydon or Reading.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on HSQE matters across the business.
  • Support the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with legal and company requirements.
  • Produce clear and understandable reports detailing findings on HSEQ compliance standards and quality of work.
  • Develop and deliver training, toolbox talks, and awareness sessions.
  • Investigate incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor and report on HSQE performance, driving improvement initiatives.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
  • Drug & Alcohol testing.
  • Chair and minute depot operatives H&S meetings.
  • Audit contractors against our HSEQ compliance systems.
  • Collaborate and communicate with customers and H&S teams.
  • Investigate the trialling of equipment or materials and report the findings.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • Minimum NEBOSH General Health and Safety Certificate Level 3 or equivalent.
  • A full driving licence.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Have the ability to work in a fast moving and challenging environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
  • Strong team player who can also work independently to plan, organise and prioritise workload.
  • Excellent communicator – personable, confident and comfortable presenting to groups.
  • Self‑motivated, hardworking and able to engage with colleagues at all levels.
  • Prior experience as an HSQE Advisor (Construction industry experience desirable).
