Lavender Lodge School, a historic 18th-century building in Mitcham, provides a life-changing learning environment for pupils with SEND, including many autistic and non-verbal children.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the senior administrator and ensure smooth reception day-to-day running.
  • Maintain accurate files and produce daily reports.
  • Assist pupils aged 4 to 11 with bespoke and accessible curriculum, using autism strategies such as TEACCH, Makaton, PODD and PECs.
  • Manage challenging behaviour, exploring behaviour function and encouraging positive behaviour change.
  • Engage with pupils, families and the wider team, promoting high expectations and celebrating “huge small victories.”

Qualifications & skills:

  • Previous experience working with autistic pupils, including non-verbal communication through Makaton, picture symbols and PECs.
  • Strong understanding of autism strategies such as TEACCH, attention autism, PODD and ability to apply them in practice.
  • Experience handling challenging behaviour and willingness to support behaviour management.
  • High level of computer literacy and customer-service skills, able to keep many plates spinning.
  • Previous administration experience in a busy school environment.
