Job Role: Private Client and Tax
Private Client and Tax Division – US Team: The Private Client and Tax division provides sophisticated legal advice to some of the world’s most successful people, from aristocracy to first, second and third generation entrepreneurs, industrialists, senior executives, celebrities, artists, philanthropists and other prominent figures. The firm has one of the largest and most comprehensive private client practices in the world. As well as acting for clients with a UK connection, the team has an international focus and acts for clients in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America in relation to trust and succession planning.
The Role: The Associate will join the firm’s London based US private client team to advise a broad mix of international high net worth individuals, families, family offices, their closely held businesses and investment structures on US and international tax, trust and estate planning. The work will be diverse covering issues such as international trust and estate planning, expatriation planning, pre‑immigration planning, cross‑border philanthropy, passive and active investment structuring for both US clients and non‑US clients wishing to invest in the US.
Key Responsibilities:
- Researching and analysing Internal Revenue Code and Regulations provisions
- Preparing technical advice memoranda
- Drafting wills and trusts
- Writing and speaking directly to clients
Person Specification:
- Must already be admitted to practice law in the US
- Must be 1st – 4th year Associate (preferably with a Juris Doctor)
- LLM in taxation / law school concentration in tax and estate planning / practical experience
- Prior work experience outside of the US, particularly London
- Desire to combine drafting work with tax planning covering a range of estate/gift, personal tax, corporate and partnership tax scenarios
The Essentials:
- Working hours: 9.30am – 5.30pm but flexibility is a must
- Hybrid working (a minimum of 2‑3 days per week on average in the office)
