Overview
We are currently recruiting a journalist to join our London based EGaming team. EGR (www.egr.global) is the leading B2B news source for the online gambling, including sports betting, and igaming industry. First established more than two decades ago, EGR continues to provide exclusive news, insight, data and content to its well-established and growing readership. You’d be joining an editorial team with more than three decades combined experience of the sector who are looking to add to an excellent team with a stellar hire.
Responsibilities
- Regularly break news and have a strong sense of what makes a good story
- Turn stories around quickly when necessary
- Develop story ideas from a variety of sources including studies, industry executives and sources, regulatory filings, etc.
- Report and write analytical stories, uncovering wider trends by synthesising separate events that occur within the industry
- Know what context and depth to include in a story
- Write clean copy that needs minimal editing, i.e. house style is correct, structure is appropriate for readers, story lead is succinct and clear, why the news is happening is clearly explained and the context that’s important for readers is included
- Know which sources to go to for comment or insight on a particular story
- Write articles that are accurate and balanced with the appropriate context and depth
- Have the judgement to report the real story rather than the angle a specific source is pushing
- Fluent in long-form feature writing
- Can moderate panels, webinars and discussions with senior industry figures
Requirements
- Have a network of sources that can provide insights for stories and tips that lead to exclusive coverage
- Are always developing and cultivating new sources
- A background in journalism or PR
- Demonstrate a keen understanding of readers’ information needs
- Can provide necessary context and insights to build out a story and increase readers’ understanding of an issue
- Are self-motivated and regularly exceed expectations in terms of story output and quality as well as meeting deadlines
- An interest or understanding of the gambling and sports betting industry is desirable, but not essential
