The Firm
Witan Solicitors is a specialist litigation firm based in Birmingham. We handle complex, high-value disputes across civil litigation, commercial law, insolvency, employment and family law often in the High Court. We’re a small, focused team, so everyone is hands-on and close to the work.
The Role
We’re recruiting a Litigation Solicitor (NQ - 4PQE) to join our litigation team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys progressing cases, drafting, problem-solving and taking responsibility early. This role is not suited to someone looking for extensive hand-holding. You’ll be expected to pick things up quickly, use initiative, and add value fast.
Key Responsibilities
- Run civil litigation matters (with supervision appropriate to experience)
- Draft strong correspondence, advice notes and research memoranda
- Prepare and manage court applications and procedural steps under CPR
- Draft pleadings when required (Particulars of Claim / Defence)
- Maintain excellent file discipline: deadlines, case plans, next actions
- Identify and execute billing points consistently (WIP → bills → cash discipline)
- Attend client meetings, take instructions and provide clear updates
- Contribute to improving precedents, templates and litigation systems
Requirements
We cannot offer a “learning from zero” environment. You should have:
- Qualified solicitor (or due to qualify imminently) NQ - 4PQE
- Strong understanding of civil litigation start to finish
- Working familiarity with CPR and court procedure
- Strong drafting ability (applications, correspondence, structured advice)
- High standards, calm under pressure, and excellent organisation
- Proficiency with Word/Outlook and a modern case-management mindset
