We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Cloud Economics team at Wise. You will work cross-functionally with engineering teams across the business, identifying and implementing efficiency improvements to our cloud estate. This role is central to managing our substantial multi-million dollar cloud budget and ensuring maximum engineering velocity.
Our team’s mission: To support Wise’s journey towards Mission Zero by ensuring our growth is supported by efficient spend in the cloud.
How we work
We are seeking an experienced engineer to drive cloud cost efficiency initiatives across the organisation. You will be a technical authority on cloud best practices with experience of the FinOps domain. You will be part of a small, cross‑functional team of engineers in collaboration with an analyst and product manager to develop and operate our FinOps platform services. We use a mix of Cloud Optimisation tooling as well as internal analytics to find opportunities to reduce our cloud spend.
What will you be working on?
- Identify opportunities to optimise the efficiency of our cloud estate such as advanced scaling methods, updating instance types and proposing architecture changes.
- Partner with our cloud providers, ensure best practices are being adopted at Wise and keep up to date with recent developments.
- Deep‑dive with teams into their services and implement changes to improve efficiency.
- Implementing automation where possible, we need to embed efficiency into all product services.
What do you need?

- Deep experience with cloud providers e.g. AWS, GCP.
- Strong experience working with microservices in a Kubernetes, cloud‑based architecture.
- Data proficiency, cloud economics is based on utilising vast amounts of data to drive technical changes.
- Hands‑on Software Engineering experience e.g. Python, Go, or Java.
- Familiar with an infrastructure as code approach e.g. Terraform.
- Experience with Cost Optimization tools e.g. Cloudability, AWS Cost Explorer, CloudZero.
- Stakeholder Management, the ability to translate complex cost data into actionable technical recommendations for product engineering teams.
- Business Acumen, understanding the trade‑offs between cost, performance, and engineering velocity.
- Strong prioritisation skills and effective time management.
