Job Description

About the role:
Senior software engineer at Wise is a specialist who has an experience in backend development and is skilled in Java, microservices, and database management. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable backend systems. Additionally, the engineer collaborates closely with the product management team to help shape product strategies and ensure technical feasibility.
How we work
Team: Settlements & Reconciliation
The team supports business processes by ensuring operations consistency, accuracy and timely reporting. We also optimise cost of operations and comply with regulatory requirements by building and maintaining risk management controls.
What will you be working on?

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java-based applications.
  • Architect and build microservices-based solutions.
  • Handle database design, optimisation, and management.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Participate in product roadmapping and strategy sessions with the product management team.
  • Translate product requirements into technical specifications.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers.
  • Ensure code quality, consistency, and maintainability through code reviews and best practices.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and trends in backend development and product management.

What do you need?

  • Solid Java knowledge, experience with Spring framework and microservice best practices
  • A strong product mindset and passion for customer experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points
  • Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audience
  • Experience working with relational, query optimisation and designing schemas
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Distributed and Concurrent Systems
