Senior Software Engineer I - Risk Control & Governance

b Overview /b p As a Senior Product Engineer at Wise, you will help build governance, assurance, and data foundations for scalable risk decisioning. You will bridge the Risk API platform with Product and FinCrime teams to ensure trust, explainability, and auditable risk assessments. You’ll design data ownership, quality monitoring, and continuous assurance to uphold control effectiveness. This role is pivotal in enabling regulated, scalable risk governance across multiple domains. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, auditable, and scalable solutions that support Wise’s mission to move money effortlessly. /p b Responsibilities /b ul li Build data trust through quality monitoring, contracts, and lineage tracking /li li Deliver automated continuous assurance to detect drift and coverage gaps /li li Enable auditability via audit trails and explainability tooling /li li Integrate governance capabilities with the Risk API and data contracts /li li Design scalable, high-throughput systems across risk domains /li li Collaborate with Risk API, Product, and FinCrime stakeholders on integration patterns /li /ul b Key requirements /b ul li Proven backend engineering experience with high-throughput, data-intensive systems in Java /li li Experience with Kafka, SQL and NoSQL databases, and scalable designs /li li Data engineering experience with data quality, pipelines, or lineage tracking /li li Systems thinking for distributed systems and reliable operations /li li Ownership and autonomy in ambiguity, delivering end-to-end solutions /li li Collaborative mindset across cross-functional teams including Risk API, Product, and FinCrime /li /ul ul li collaborative /li li ownership /li li problem-solving /li li Java backend development /li li Kafka /li li SQL databases /li /ul
