Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed. Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their lives easier and save them money. As part of our team, you will be helping us create an entirely new network for the world's money. For everyone, everywhere.
We are looking for a talented Android Engineer to join our Design Systems team. Wise.com and the Wise iOS and Android apps are the shop-window of Wise. With ever-growing demands to continue to expand on, scale up and build out different parts of our website and apps, it has been essential to build a dedicated design system. As a Design Systems team, we continuously explore, design, and author a wide range of foundations, building blocks, and tooling used by all our products and landing pages. But it’s not just about meeting the product team’s feature needs – as brand guardians, we must ensure that everything we release reinforces the trust gained from our customers over the years.
To achieve that, we tend to look at problems from different angles, be it UX, scalability, efficiency, consistency, performance, widely understood accessibility, motion, design and technical documentation, and more. Being a member of Mobile engineering, you are encouraged to influence other parts of the app, collaborate with 60 other mobile engineers and help raise both the UX and code quality across all Wise customers. You’ll also be responsible for ensuring the solutions you build scale and fit well in order to achieve a high quality global product and collaborate often with your peers across other teams as well.
Our work requires close partnerships with technical, as well as non-technical, audiences: Product Designers, Content Designers, Brand/Creative Designers, Web, iOS, and Android Engineers, Design Tooling Specialists, Vulnerable Customers, and more.
As a Design Systems Android Engineer, you will:
- Participate in or lead other engineers through the full lifecycle of a feature, from its discovery and technical specification to authoring, testing, documenting, releasing, presenting, and eventually maintaining it.
- Help troubleshoot, fix, and support other product teams in resolving problems related to our work.
- Represent and champion Design Systems initiatives in front of both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate closely with teams across the company to deliver impactful experiences to the Design Systems’ internal and external consumers.
- Support new Wise engineers, helping them ramp up on the Design System, tooling, and best practices.
Qualifications
What do you need?
- Deep expertise in building reusable UI components and tooling with Compose.
- Integrate with theme architecture, managing design tokens (colours, spacing, typography) globally.
- The ability to build clean, intuitive, and highly flexible APIs that other developers can easily integrate.
- Experience with visual regression testing and optimising UI performance to ensure zero dropped frames.
- An appetite for building delightful user experiences.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong commitment and hands-on experience building accessible interfaces with inclusive design in mind, and using testing tools to improve usability.
- The ability to explore, discuss, evaluate, and communicate, often complex, technical problems as a critical thinker – with curiosity, open-mindedness, clarity and objectivity.
- The ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional peers as well as solve problems independently and proactively.
- An eagerness to learn and share knowledge alike, contribute to and improve technical documentation and RFCs.
We’d also love to hear more if you:
- Have contributed to and helped grow design systems or pattern libraries.
- Have had any exposure to authoring tooling and automation.
- Are comfortable navigating Figma or similar design tools.
But don’t worry – we know it’s uncommon for a candidate to have all the required skills, and we fully support everyone in learning new ones with us. So if you have only some of the skills listed above and are eager to learn more, we’d love to hear from you!
What do we offer:
- Starting salary: 87500 - 111000 GBP
- RSUs
- Wise Benefits

How to prepare for a job interview at Wise
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. ✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
