Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed. Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their lives easier and save them money.
Wise is pioneering a new era of cross-border finance. As we expand our footprint in our emergent markets, we are looking for a Product Compliance and Risk Senior specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be the bridge between complex and diverse global financial crime regulations and our Product/Engineering teams. Your mission is to enable the launch of innovative products and partnerships while ensuring our risk profile is managed through robust, scalable, and customer-centric controls.
Your Mission
- Enable Growth: Support the LATAM and MEA and Global Platform teams in launching new products and partnerships by deeply understanding FinCrime risks and designing associated controls.
- 1LOD Ownership: Act as a hands-on compliance partner within the product development cycle, translating regulatory requirements into technical specifications for engineers and product managers.
- Risk Management: Identify, mitigate, and oversee the control environment, ensuring that our LATAM / MEA offering adheres to both local mandates and Wise’s global risk appetite.
Key Responsibilities
- Control Design & Product Innovation: Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineers to design KYC, AML, and Anti-Fraud controls that are practical, scalable, and customer-oriented. Ensure controls scale with the product by developing automated monitoring processes to mitigate financial crime risk effectively.
- Regulatory Risk & Advisory: Receive expert advice on existing and forthcoming regulations from our oversight function and translate them into operationally successful controls. Translate "regulatory problems" into technical opportunities, helping teams build risk-based products from the ground up. Collaborate with 2LOD (Compliance) to stay ahead of regulatory shifts and ensure the Product team is aligned with current guidance.
- Audit, Remediation & External Relations: Oversee the remediation issues and ensure timely mitigation of regulatory risks. Assist with responses to regulatory audits and partner due diligence; challenge findings where necessary in collaboration with 2LOD.
About You
- Expertise: gained experience in control and risk frameworks, methodologies, and control testing. Understanding of the risk lifecycle.
- Technical Fluency: Ability to communicate effectively with Engineers and Product Managers, providing actionable recommendations rather than just quoting policy or regulations.
- Problem Solver: A data-driven approach to compliance, using regulations to drive smart business decisions.
- Ownership: A natural owner who drives projects from inception to completion with extreme attention to detail.
- Fluent in English: Global Mindset: Comfortable working across time zones with a collaborative, "think outside the box" spirit.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with Correspondent Banking or B2B partnership compliance.
- Familiarity with CVM regulations or investment management compliance.
- Proficiency in Jira, Confluence, or specialized Risk & Control software.
- Additionally fluent in any of our target market languages: Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic.
What this role offers
- The chance to work at the heart of the product development cycle in one of the world’s fastest-growing Fintechs.
- Direct impact on how millions of customers move and manage money in emerging markets.
- A high-autonomy environment where you are empowered to lead solution designs for complex regulatory landscapes.
