Job Description
We’re looking for a Risk Lead to join the Global Risk team at Wise and focus on enabling our Wise Assets product to meet its strategic objectives.
This is a second line role and will report into the Head of Risk Product Governance.
Wise Assets is an investment product that allows eligible customers to earn a return on their money by investing it in the market rather than holding it as cash.
It is a self-directed feature within the Wise multi‑currency account where funds are placed into money market funds or stocks managed by third‑party fund managers.
YOUR MISSION
You will partner with the Head of Risk Product Governance and the wider Risk organisation to strengthen and continuously evolve the risk management programme supporting Wise Assets.
You will help ensure that risk frameworks are effectively embedded into the product lifecycle, operational processes, and strategic decision-making, while enabling Wise Assets to scale responsibly across multiple jurisdictions.
You will provide independent challenge, oversight and guidance to ensure risks are identified early, appropriately assessed, transparently reported, and effectively managed through enhancements to the control environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and embed Wise’s Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), associated policies, standards and methodologies across the Wise Assets product ecosystem, ensuring alignment with product developments and appropriate prioritisation of regulatory requirements.
This will include establishing and maintaining risk appetite for Assets.
- Partner with first line teams and co‑ordinate with regional risk colleagues to ensure risk management practices are consistently applied and operating effectively across product, operational and governance processes.
- Provide independent second line oversight and challenge on risk assessments, control design, control effectiveness and residual risk decisions relating to Wise Assets activities and initiatives.
- Support product growth and innovation by reviewing new products, features, market expansions and strategic initiatives, providing pragmatic risk advice and recommending proportionate mitigation strategies.
- Apply ERMF methodologies, including RCSAs, to drive risk and control mapping and assessment activities, ensuring key risks, controls, dependencies and monitoring mechanisms are clearly identified and maintained.
- Oversee control assurance activities and monitor the effectiveness of key controls, identifying areas of weakness, emerging risks, or control gaps requiring remediation.
- Own and coordinate issue management activities for Wise Assets, including tracking remediation plans, challenging delivery timelines, escalating delays or material concerns, and ensuring actions are completed in line with enterprise standards and policy requirements.
- Monitor key risk indicators, operational incidents, control failures and emerging trends to proactively identify deteriorating risk exposures or areas requiring management intervention.
- Support the development and delivery of risk training and awareness initiatives across Wise Assets, helping strengthen risk culture and risk ownership within the business.
- Produce high-quality risk reporting and insights for governance committees and senior stakeholders, ensuring reporting is data‑driven, clear, actionable and focused on material risk themes.
- Report on risks operating outside approved appetite thresholds, including escalation of significant exposures, thematic concerns, or persistent control weaknesses.
- Provide qualitative and quantitative analysis of incidents, issues and remediation activities impacting Wise Assets, including trend analysis and escalation where required.
- Consolidate risk insights across regions to support enterprise‑wide reporting and contribute to effective decision‑making at Group governance forums.
- Build strong relationships with Product, Compliance, Operations, Engineering, Legal, Audit and Regional Risk teams to ensure risk management supports commercial growth while maintaining robust governance standards.
Qualifications
- Significant experience within financial services, fintech, banking, wealth management, or investment environments, with a strong track record in first or second line risk management roles.
- Experience working within or supporting investment products, asset management, brokerage, or regulated investment firms is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience implementing or operating enterprise risk management frameworks within regulated financial services organisations.
- Strong understanding of non-financial risk management concepts and methodologies, including operational risk, regulatory risk, conduct risk, financial crime risk and control governance.
- Proven ability to provide effective independent challenge and escalation while maintaining strong and constructive stakeholder relationships.
- Experience assessing complex products, operational processes, and control environments in fast‑paced or scaling organisations.
- Strong analytical, data management and reporting skills, including the ability to translate complex risk information into clear, concise and impactful insights for senior management, governance committees and regulators.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across different levels of seniority and functions.
- A pragmatic, commercially aware and solutions‑oriented mindset, with the ability to balance effective risk management against business growth and customer outcomes.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, deliver to tight timelines and operate effectively in a fast‑changing environment.
- An inquisitive mindset and strong interpersonal skills, with a desire to deeply understand how products operate and how risks evolve as the business scales.
- Experience working in global and cross‑functional environments, particularly within technology‑driven or high‑growth organisations, would be highly advantageous.
- Additional Information
Hybrid working - 3 days onsite and 2 from home.
Working hours - 9am to 6pm.
