We’re looking for a driven, high-energy individual who will be joining our Group & FinCrime Compliance Monitoring & Testing (CMT) team as a Senior Manager. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Group & FinCrime CMT Lead to help create, manage and execute both global and UK-focused FinCrime monitoring and testing programs that protect Wise and our customers from financial crime. You’ll partner with a wide range of stakeholders – from the first line of defence in Operations and Product to second-line Compliance specialists, and Internal Audit – to enhance internal controls and promote an overall culture of compliance.
You will also maintain our monitoring and testing methodologies to ensure they are aligned with global regulatory requirements and meet the industry’s best practice. Your work will help ensure our FinCrime controls remain robust, scalable, and aligned with both global and local regulatory requirements. By collaborating with cross-functional teams and regional stakeholders, you will play an integral part in protecting Wise’s customers, reputation, and business operations.
Key responsibilities / Your Mission
- Planning: Collaborate with the Group & FinCrime CMT Lead to define the annual review plans and ensure their timely execution.
- Governance: Support the Lead with the regular management and board-level reporting on key findings, trends, and risk levels, ensuring stakeholders have visibility into compliance performance.
- Control testing & issue validation: Supervise the control reviews end-to-end from Scoping to Reporting as well as our issue validation work, ensuring the team appropriately follows our methodologies & best practices and every deliverable meets top-quality standards. You’ll also empower our 1st Line teams by training them on effective remediation practices, giving them the know-how to confidently and effectively close actions.
- Monitoring: Lead the execution and roll-out of monitoring activities over key FinCrime risks, working with subject matter experts and data analysts to build dashboards and get actionable insights.
- Testing methods: Assist in creating and maintaining repeatable test scripts and documentation that align with Wise’s global FinCrime compliance obligations, ensuring quality and consistency across regions. You will also identify opportunities to streamline monitoring and testing activities, ensuring processes are efficient and reduce duplication of effort across the different regions.
- Global methodology: Maintain our monitoring and testing methodologies to ensure they are aligned with global regulatory requirements and meet the industry’s best practices.
- Stakeholder management: Work closely with key senior stakeholders from all three Lines of Defence (Operations, Product, Compliance, Internal Audit) to ensure the effective and impactful delivery of our CMT reviews and our continued alignment with regulatory and business priorities.
- Training & Development: Provide guidance and training to junior CMT team members or cross-functional partners, helping them understand methodologies, test scripts, and best practices.
Experience: Demonstrable experience (>8 years) conducting and leading assurance reviews and issue validation work within Compliance, Financial Crime, Risk, or Audit functions; experience in a payments or fintech environment preferred.
Knowledge: Strong knowledge of financial crime regulations, testing methodologies, and risk assessment frameworks, particularly in relation to UK rules and global compliance requirements.
Leadership: Proven track record in leading compliance monitoring and testing reviews across multiple jurisdictions, with the ability to collaborate effectively with local and global teams.
Quality management: Experience coaching more junior team members to help them develop and ensure they deliver high-quality work.
Skills: Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into effective monitoring and testing activities and to engage with senior stakeholders in an effective manner.
Travel: Based in London, you’re open to occasional travel to other locations abroad (roughly once a quarter) to keep our global CMT efforts aligned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in law, finance, or related fields. Relevant certifications (e.g., ACAMS, ICA) are preferred.
