Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed. Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their lives easier and save them money.
This is a first-line product compliance role. You will work directly alongside engineers and product managers to translate regulatory obligations into product decisions that are scalable, defensible and globally consistent.
Your mission
Keeping pace with how money moves. As Wise expands into new markets, corridors, and payment schemes, the rules governing how transfers are processed, and who can send them, become increasingly complex. You will own the compliance strategy for core product flows that determine customer eligibility: how we verify where customers live, how we handle customers who move between countries, and how we allocate customers to the right licensed entity. These aren't abstract compliance questions; they manifest directly in product screens, data models, and engineering decisions. You will need to go deep quickly, surface the 'so what,' and drive alignment between legal, product, and engineering teams across multiple markets.
Strengthening the infrastructure for regulatory accountability. Wise is continuously evolving the regulatory infrastructure that helps us demonstrate compliance across our licences, markets, and products. This platform connects our regulatory obligations to the policies, controls, … You'll help shape and strengthen this capability by partnering with engineers, product teams, and compliance specialists to ensure regulatory obligations are accurately reflected in our systems and translated into appropriate controls. You’ll also help make this scalable.
Staying ahead of global payment standards. Wise operates across dozens of payment schemes and licensed entities worldwide. As international standards for payment messaging and data requirements evolve, you will own the compliance thread for how Wise's product and data infrastructure keeps pace, working closely with data engineering, scheme specialists, and regional legal counsel to ensure our payment flows are accurate, complete, and consistently applied across every market we operate in.
As Group Product Compliance Lead, you will:
- Own compliance strategy and delivery across all of Wise for core domains such as payment processing, obligations to control mapping and verification standards.
- Translate complex, multi-jurisdictional obligations into actionable product and engineering decisions.
- Represent Wise's compliance position to regional regulators, internal forums, and external auditors where required.
- Build relationships with product, policy, and compliance teams globally to maintain a consistent and current view of obligations across markets.
- Help define and scale the assurance frameworks that give Wise confidence its controls are working.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has deep fintech compliance experience, with a track record of working directly in product teams, not alongside them.
- Is comfortable in codebases, engineering discussions, and architecture reviews; not intimidated by technical complexity.
- Can move between regulatory text and product specifications without losing either thread.
- Is a strong communicator who can synthesise regulatory complexity into a clear position for non-specialists.
- Is comfortable operating in ambiguity; capable of defining structure where none exists yet.
- Has a track record of influencing decisions across legal, engineering, and product at senior levels.
- Has familiarity with payment scheme rules (SEPA, SWIFT, domestic real-time rails).
- Has experience with multi-entity or multi-licence compliance structures.
- Has working knowledge of KYC and identity verification frameworks and the product decisions that flow from them.
In return, this role offers:
- Real ownership: you ship things, you don't just advise.
- No regional or domain siloing; genuine cross-functional ownership spanning product, engineering, and compliance.
- The chance to shape infrastructure and frameworks that will operate at company scale, affecting every Wise customer and licensed entity.
- An exceptional cross-functional team across product, engineering, compliance, risk, and banking.
For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive. We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences. Inclusive teams help us live our values and make sure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.
