We are looking for a passionate Engineering Manager to join the Treasury Safeguarding team and take ownership of the core critical business functions served by the team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery of key initiatives, contribute to setting the technical strategy of the team, and ensure we build robust and scalable systems while promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. You will have a direct and measurable impact across multiple Wise products, owing to the core position of the team's domain.

The Safeguarding team sits within the Treasury Squad of Finance-Treasury-Pricing Tribe and is responsible for providing accurate, reliable and real-time systems, powering the safety and investment of Customer's Funds across various products and jurisdictions. Customers currently hold £25 Billion with us and trust us to protect the funds. The team has a strong focus on risk reduction, scalability, and growth enablement.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to automating and scaling our safeguarding solutions for managing the growing customer holdings.
  • Improve the reliability and scalability of our services through strategic modularisation projects, aimed at enhancing the overall health and performance of our systems.
  • Build additional controls and monitoring to proactively identify and resolve issues with our Safeguarding Ledger, reporting calculations and banking integrations, ensuring accuracy and completeness of our regulatory obligations.
  • Mentor and help engineers in your team to grow whilst helping the team scale as its domain expands.
  • Collaborate with other product teams to lead key initiatives aimed to reduce risk, improve scalability, and onboard our products.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership, guiding the team on architectural design, code reviews, and best practices.
  • Serve as a technical expert for the domain, partnering with analytics, product and compliance teams to ensure smooth launches.
  • Drive initiatives to improve the reliability and scalability of our services through strategic modularisation projects.
  • Lead the development of new solutions that improve our speed of execution.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers (junior and senior), fostering a supportive environment that promotes technical growth.
  • Work closely with other Engineering Leads, Staff Engineers, and Product to shape the team's and squad's technical roadmaps.
  • Help the team navigate complex priorities and make trade‑offs to deliver solutions that reduce risk and unlock growth.
  • Act as a key representative of the team, collaborating with stakeholders across the company.
  • Represent the team in front of internal and external auditors and regulators.
  • Build and maintain team culture focusing on the impact.

  • Experience leading a team in a payments, fintech, or other complex, high‑stakes domain.
  • Prior experience working on a team with a global, distributed setup.
  • Experience building systems that serve enterprise clients at scale.
  • Previous experience scaling teams and systems for global reach.
  • Experience at companies with an engineering excellence culture.
