Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world’s money. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed. Whether people and businesses are sending money to another country, spending abroad, or making and receiving international payments, Wise is on a mission to make their lives easier and save them money.
The Acquiring Platform team has the goal of receiving payments internationally, both cheap and convenient. This team has built an API, SDK and Webhooks that allow businesses and platforms, such as Woocomerce, to use Wise to power their checkout page. It offers the ability to take card payments and receive it in any currency, without forced and costly conversions. The team also manages the dashboards, payment method management, and payment details experience, together with other actions to be taken on the received payments such as refunding. This team is working to expand this functionality.
We want our API to be able to offer more payment methods such as GooglePay, ApplePay and other local payment methods, such as PIX and UBI. You will also help us expand it into more platforms, so that Wise can power the checkout in the most popular Ecommerce stores builder and Payment Service Providers.
As the Engineering Lead, you will manage a team of backend engineers and web engineers, mentoring and growing them. You will also work closely with the PM to decide on the next payment methods and platforms to build for next, to make receiving payments internationally both cheap and convenient a reality. You will also join the team 24/7 on-call rotation, normally on-call every 6-10 weeks.
The Acquiring Platform team is part of the Global Product tribe, dedicated to enabling customers to receive money seamlessly and efficiently into their Wise accounts. We build innovative payment products that serve both businesses and consumers, creating convenient and reliable ways to get paid internationally.

- Experience leading teams and expand products in order to navigate to ongoing expansion.
- A strong product mindset and passion for user experience, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions to fix customer pain-points.
- Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Leading and inspiring your team of engineers to build the prioritise building right things, in the right way.
- Ability to deliver work across multiple teams, coordinating your efforts across the organisation.
- Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value.
- Experience in developing web applications and distributed systems in a production environment.
- Experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean code that is performant and well tested.
- Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement.
- Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews.
- Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas is a plus.
- Knowledge of Java and Spring boot and experience with a messaging system, like Kafka, is a plus.
- Being part of the on-call rotation for our critical services and helping the team improve it, normally being on-call every 6-10 weeks.
