Wise Employment is currently recruiting for an experienced Buyer (Food) for an expanding, exciting, and well-established company based in the Plymouth area. You will need to have buying experience within a background of food-related products. This role will be working Monday to Friday 8.45am to 5.30pm and offers 21 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays), long service awards, cycle to work scheme, and an employee discount scheme.

As a Food Buyer, you will be responsible for sourcing new products and categories, developing relationships with suppliers, and negotiating competitive prices, along with overall pushing your category forward.

What your day will look like as a Food Buyer:

  • You will be primarily responsible for maximising sales, margin, and profitability within a fast-moving and diverse category.
  • Your days will vary, allowing you to have ultimate responsibility for the implementation and evaluation of the product strategy and ensuring that the business is meeting customer needs.
  • Using your creative mind and forward way of thinking, you will need to monitor and review competitor information; therefore, you will need to come up with new ideas to ensure your product offering stays relevant in a changing market.
  • By working with your team, you need to play a lead role within reviews, supplier negotiations, promotions, and pricing.

  • You will need to have buyer experience and it is essential to have experience within the food-related industry.

  • You will need to have an excellent ability to communicate with various suppliers and employees, making you an excellent team player in a fast-paced environment.
