This position instructs Persons in Our Care in a one-year diploma Computer Drafting-Mechanical vocational program accredited by the WI Technical College System (WTCS) through Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC). Included are instructional skills and knowledge in Mechanical Design Technology: knowledge of basic Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) 2D, CAD 3D, Auto CAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam and Flexi-Sign software.

In addition to ensuring all program outcomes are evaluated and documented, the instructor will inventory and maintain equipment and supplies, evaluate students both formatively and summatively, and use effective classroom/lab management techniques.

Salary Information

Starting salary for this position is $29.13 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Candidates may receive supplemental pay, up to $2.97/hr., for additional credits relevant to the position that are over & above the credits needed for certification. Pay upon appointment will be in accordance with language in the Compensation Plan, Statutes, and Administrative Code. This position is in pay schedule/range 13-04. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment. Note: Remote work is not available for this position.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants must meet criteria determined by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) in Mechanical Design as described below:

  • To meet the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) instructional credentialing requirements for this position, a Bachelor’s Degree preparing the candidate for the occupational area being taught (Mechanical Design Technology) is required.
  • In addition, a minimum of 2 years (4000 hours) of occupational experience (in a target job for the program or program areas being taught), of which at least 1 year (2000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment.

Interested Applicants who do not have a Bachelor’s degree, but do have at least the minimum required occupational experience: It is possible for applicants to qualify for an interview without the required Bachelor’s degree, but with some education, training or coursework pertaining to Mechanical Design Technology. This is with the understanding that, if hired, the candidate will be required to sign an agreement to obtain the Bachelor’s Degree within a time period to be determined by WTCS and the WI Department of Corrections. A candidate hired without a relevant degree for this position must be willing to work toward one. One year of occupational experience may be waived if the applicant has at least 2 years (8 semesters part-time or 4 semesters full-time) post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field at an accredited post-secondary degree granting institution, within 5 years prior to the date of the appointment.
