About Wellbore Integrity Solutions (WIS) is a global oilfield technology company developing high‑performance downhole tools and systems used in drilling, fishing, wellbore departure, abandonment, and intervention applications.
About The Position: The Mechanical Engineer will support new product development initiatives focused on drilling and fishing downhole applications. This role is centered on taking tools from concept through design, prototype build, testing, field trials, and commercialization. The engineer will contribute to technically evaluating concepts, performing engineering analyses, building and testing prototypes, and iterating designs based on field feedback. This is a hands‑on product engineering role for someone who wants ownership of real mechanical systems and direct exposure to how tools perform in the field.
Primary Responsibilities
- New Product Development
- Design and develop mechanical downhole tools from concept through product launch
- Evaluate and technically assess design concepts, including stress analysis and operational limitations
- Generate 3D CAD models, assembly layouts, and detailed component drawings (Creo preferred)
- Apply engineering calculations and established design standards to complete design activities
- Engineering Analysis & Validation
- Perform mechanical calculations to support structural and functional performance
- Support advanced analyses or FEA, as required
- Develop test procedures and coordinate lab and prototype testing
- Analyze test data, document results, and recommend design improvements
- Prototype, Manufacturing & Field Support
- Coordinate with Manufacturing and suppliers to build and refine prototypes
- Provide engineering support during field trials and product deployments
- Troubleshoot manufacturing defects and field performance issues
- Implement timely corrective actions and continuous improvements
- Project Execution
- Support project planning and execution using structured product development processes
- Participate in technical design reviews
- Contribute to engineering documentation, maintenance documentation, and operational guidelines
- Prepare internal technical presentations and summaries
Engineers in this role may mentor technicians or junior engineers and support knowledge‑sharing initiatives across the team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3–7 years of mechanical design and product development experience
- Oil & Gas experience required
- Experience designing mechanical systems for downhole applications preferred
- Experience in drilling and fishing tools strongly desirable
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo preferred or equivalent platform)
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Skills And Competencies
- Experience supporting tools from prototype through commercialization
- Exposure to FEA (Abaqus or equivalent is a plus)
- Experience supporting manufacturing or fabrication processes
- Experience participating in lab or field qualification testing
- Experience working in structured product development environments
