This is an exciting time to be joining Wirral University Teaching Hospital as we develop our operating theatres into the next stage. There are 25 theatres across two sites. The Clatterbridge site has had four new theatres built in 22/23 and has just been GIRFT accredited as an Elective Hub offering mutual aid to the region. The Sterile Services Manager will play a vital role in the success of the 25 theatres by ensuring instruments are processed in a timely manner.

The Sterile Services Department is on the Arrowe Park site with a stand alone theatre endoscopy decontamination unit on the Clatterbridge site.

The post holder will be required to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of The Sterile Services Department ensuring robust systems of communication, governance and financial management. You will report directly to the Theatre Manager.

The Trust has a Decontamination Lead who will provide support and guidance to you to ensure regulatory standards are maintained.

Provide effective leadership to the sterile services team, ensuring efficient workflow and a high standard of service delivery.

Recruit, train, and supervise sterile services staff. Monitor performance, conduct evaluations, and foster a positive working environment.

Oversee the sterilization and decontamination of medical instruments and equipment. Ensure adherence to established protocols and standards.

Implement and maintain rigorous quality control measures to guarantee the effectiveness of sterilization processes and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Stay informed about relevant regulations and standards in healthcare and sterilization.

Work closely with other healthcare departments to understand their sterilization needs and coordinate services accordingly.

Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes, equipment maintenance, and quality control measures. Prepare reports as required.

Develop and conduct training programs for sterile services staff, keeping them updated on the latest techniques, technologies, and safety measures.

Manage the department\’s budget effectively, optimizing resources and controlling costs while maintaining quality standards.

Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements within the sterile services department

Develop and implement contingency plans for emergency situations that may impact sterile services operations.
