The Governors of Cathcart Street Primary School are seeking to appoint a motivated, passionate, and caring Assistant Headteacher from September 2026 with responsibility for Curriculum and Assessment. We are a nurturing, inclusive primary school with a committed staff team, enthusiastic pupils, and a community that is proud of the progress we are making. We are now seeking an Assistant Headteacher to lead on Curriculum and Assessment across the school - someone who will champion high standards, nurture staff development, and help us continue to grow with positivity and purpose.
Job overview
Purpose of role: Lead the development and review of all aspects of the curriculum including planning, recording and reporting, assessment for learning and the development of relevant, personalised, engaging curricula for all pupils. Liaise and support Middle leaders to implement whole school development plans.
Strategic direction and development of the School - in co-operation with, and under the direction of the Headteacher:
- Support and secure the commitment of others to the vision, ethos, direction and policies of the school which secure effective teaching, successful learning and achievement by pupils.
- To play a key role in ensuring the effective implementation of our school curriculum, working closely with subject leaders to monitor teaching and learning.
- To work with the Headteacher to develop and embed assessment practices to monitor the impact of the curriculum for all children.
- To work with the Headteacher to ensure the effective use of the behaviour policy, working closely with all stakeholders in improving behaviour further.
- Support all staff in achieving the priorities and targets the school sets and monitor the progress towards meeting them.
- Promote equality for all pupils, creating and promoting positive strategies.
- Combine the outcomes of regular self-review and external evaluations in order to enhance and further develop the school.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Equipped to support and develop the school's ethos.
- Committed to safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of children, staff, and visitors.
- Excellent team player who will work closely with all team members.
- Proven track record as a highly effective classroom practitioner.
- Successful experience as a middle or senior leader in a primary school.
- Proven impact in leading curriculum and/or assessment.
- Strong track record of improving outcomes for pupils.
- Experience of coaching, mentoring, or supporting colleagues.
