We are looking for a Head of Faculty - English & Maths to join our team. This is a 35 hours per week, full-time, permanent role offering a salary of £63,113 per annum.

Job Purpose/Key Responsibilities

The Head of Faculty – English and Maths holds strategic and operational accountability for the quality, performance, and continuous improvement of English and mathematics provision. The role is central to the delivery of national priorities for English and maths, recognising their critical importance to learner progression, employability, social mobility, funding compliance and inspection outcomes. As the accountable person, the postholder will set and drive the strategic direction for English and maths, ensuring sustained improvements in learner outcomes, teaching and assessment quality, and curriculum impact. The postholder will lead the college‑wide English and maths strategy, holding Heads of Department to account for performance and ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, funding requirements, and inspection expectations. The postholder will be directly accountable for English and maths curriculum planning, GCSE and Functional Skills outcomes, the effective embedding of English and maths across the curriculum, and the delivery of consistently high‑quality provision that meets the needs of learners, employers, and external stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in English, mathematics, education, or a related subject.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to English, maths, or post‑16 education.
  • Significant experience teaching English or mathematics within Further Education or post‑16 education.
  • Proven track record of leading sustained improvement in English and/or maths outcomes across multiple curriculum areas or at whole‑organisation level.
  • Experience of holding middle leaders to account for performance and driving measurable impact.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading successful inspection outcomes or significant quality improvement initiatives.
