Active Travel Officer x 2 (Both full time but 1 role is term-time) Fixed Term – 12 months
Are you passionate about making a real difference to how people travel, improving health, and creating safer, greener communities? Wirral Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Active Travel Officer to help drive behaviour change across the borough, encouraging more residents, schools and businesses to choose walking, cycling and other sustainable modes of travel.
About the Role:
This is a dynamic, community-facing role where you will design and deliver targeted programmes and initiatives that promote safer, more sustainable travel. Working closely with schools, local communities, businesses and partner organisations, you will play a key role in shaping healthier travel habits and supporting the Council’s road safety and climate ambitions. You’ll lead on initiatives such as Modeshift STARS accreditation, local campaigns (e.g. Clean Air Day, Bike Month), and community engagement events. You’ll also carry out surveys, analyse data, and work with stakeholders to tackle barriers to active travel and improve local transport outcomes. From delivering training and awareness sessions to setting up community steering groups and supporting School Streets initiatives, no two days will be the same.
About the candidate:
- Passionate about behaviour change, sustainability and road safety, with a genuine interest in improving community wellbeing
- A confident communicator, able to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences including schools, residents and partners
- Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver impactful programmes
- Collaborative, with strong partnership working skills and the ability to build relationships across communities and organisations
- Data-aware, able to gather insights, evaluate outcomes and help shape future initiatives
You’ll ideally have experience delivering education, training or community programmes, organising events, and working directly with the public. Experience in active travel, road safety, or behaviour change initiatives would be advantageous.
