About the Role:
An exciting and challenging opportunity has been created to join the Finance Service at Wirral Council. We are looking for a Technical VAT and Taxation Officer to join and support the Corporate Finance Team. As a key member of the Accountancy team, your primary purpose will be to support the Senior Finance Manager to effectively implement and manage the Council’s VAT liability in addition to advising departments, elected members and stakeholders on other taxation i.e. Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), in consultation with our appointed taxation advisors. You will play a key role in ensuring the Council’s VAT liability is managed, evaluated and monitored ensuring compliance with HMRC legislation. Working with the Senior Finance Manager you will also help to ensure that the Council complies with all necessary VAT and associated taxation reporting requirements.
About the candidate:
You will be an enthusiastic, motivated, and committed individual, who is able to demonstrate a working knowledge of this area, whilst also possessing excellent communication skills. This is a challenging position and will require strong financial analysis skills and input into reporting for various stakeholders. Candidates will preferably have experience in a local government finance environment.
