AD: Consultant in Public Health (Part-time)
- 2‑year fixed term contract
- Hours negotiable up to 0.5 WTE
- Hybrid working – 1 day on site
- Salary range: £84,522 to £93,681 (pro‑rated)
- NHS Band 8c/8d may be considered depending on circumstances
About the Role:
Our Public Health Consultants play a key role in partnership arrangements across health and wellbeing. This post-holder will work closely with Adult Social Care colleagues to bring a Public Health lens to the delivery of services, helping to shape practice and policy in an area of growing demand.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Developing and leading an innovative programme of work to understand the rising demand for adult social care services and to identify actions that can reduce that impact across short, medium and longer‑term horizons.
- Providing strong public‑health leadership and specialist advice on a range of priorities, ensuring evidence‑based approaches to commissioning and service delivery.
- Supporting the Director of Public Health and the Corporate Leadership Team in prioritising the council’s plans and delivering on the Wirral Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
- Representing the council at external partnership meetings and ensuring effective collaboration with local and national health and community partners.
- Providing expert advice and leadership to ensure high‑quality, equitable services across the wider council population.
- Supporting training programmes for Foundation Year Doctors/Specialty Registrars in Public Health and for other local trainees and professionals.
About the Candidate:
You will be a fully qualified public‑health specialist, registered on the GMC/GDC or UKPHR Public Health Specialist Register (or within six months of entry), with a broad range of knowledge and skills and the capability to lead complex public‑health initiatives.
- Experience in leading public‑health initiatives within a local‑authority setting and in a political environment is desirable.
- Strong adaptability, focus on delivery and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of partners.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Commitment to inclusive practice and a diverse workforce.
