Local Taxation & Assessment Officer – Housing Benefits
Wirral Council invites applications for the Local Taxation & Assessment Officer – Housing Benefits role. This position supports the Revenues and Benefits Service in administering and processing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction assessments, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Calculate, record and process assessments for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance.
- Analyse and assess data to determine outcomes for benefit entitlements, including changes in entitlement.
- Deal with inbound and outbound contact with customers via telephone, email or letter.
- Work within well‑defined standard business processes to analyse information and perform more complex tasks.
- Contribute proactively to achieving statistical and qualitative performance targets.
- Assist in the development of the service.
- For Level 3 positions – demonstrate experience of relevant legislation, working procedures, and technical knowledge in handling Housing Benefit or Welfare Benefits; if not, show strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
- For Level 3 – undertake visits as required.
Candidate Profile
Enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interpret legislation, make decisions and utilise IT systems to accurately record information. Experience working at pace is essential.
