Wirral Council is seeking a Technical Officer to join the Environmental Health Service. This is a varied and rewarding role providing specialist technical support across a range of environmental health disciplines. You will carry out investigations and inspections, provide expert advice to residents and businesses, and take enforcement action where necessary, including gathering evidence, serving legal notices, and preparing prosecution files. This role offers the opportunity to specialise in one or more environmental health areas while developing your skills across the wider service.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold an appropriate qualification in at least one Environmental Health related discipline or have relevant experience and a commitment to working towards a qualification. You should demonstrate strong problem‑solving, negotiation and decision‑making skills, and be confident interpreting and enforcing legislation. You are an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to work independently with minimal supervision to a high level of accuracy.

Schedule and Working Arrangements

Interviews are scheduled to take place week commencing 8 June 2026. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining remote work with in‑office days twice a week.

Eligibility to Work

Eligibility to work in the UK will be verified in the final stages of the selection process. All candidates must either already have a right to work in the UK before commencing employment or meet the Home Office criteria for visa sponsorship. Candidates who require sponsorship should evaluate the Home Office eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa before applying.
