Help build the investment technology capability behind one of the UK's largest investment managers

Northern LGPS is establishing a new FCA authorised investment management company to manage around £70bn of assets on behalf of three Local Government Pension Scheme funds. As

Investment Applications Lead , you'll play a key role in delivering the investment technology environment that will support this next phase of the organisation's development.

Working closely with the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), Head of Technology and IT Services and Infrastructure Lead, you'll lead the implementation, configuration and ongoing development of investment applications, ensuring systems, data platforms and integrations are ready to support a high-performing investment operation from day one.

About Northern LGPS

Northern LGPS is a c£70bn pooled investment partnership for the Local Government Pension Scheme, bringing together the investments of Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund and West Yorkshire Pension Fund.

Building on the foundations of its collaboration over several years, Northern LGPS is now entering the next phase of its development.

This phase focuses on establishing an FCA authorised investment management company with a dedicated senior leadership team, strengthening governance and creating a clear operating model to support long-term investment outcomes.

  • Main responsibilities
  • Lead the implementation, configuration and development of Northern LGPS's investment technology applications, including portfolio management systems, data platforms and reporting tools.
  • Establish and validate integrations between investment applications and third-party providers, ensuring reliable data flows are in place ahead of operational go-live.
  • Act as Northern LGPS's internal subject matter expert for investment-facing technology, advising on applications, investment operations, data flows and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with the CIO, IT Services and Infrastructure Lead and investment, risk and reporting colleagues to understand business requirements and deliver effective technology solutions.
  • Oversee application performance, identify issues and coordinate improvements to maximise reliability and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead the delivery of investment technology projects, ensuring systems and integrations are fully configured, tested and operationally ready.
  • Maintain documentation covering application configurations, integrations, testing outcomes and operational procedures.
  • Assess technology vendors, application roadmaps and new developments to support continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate user training and provide guidance when new applications or significant enhancements are introduced.
  • Ensure investment applications, associated data flows and reporting capabilities operate in line with governance requirements, internal policies and relevant regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Identify, manage and escalation application risks, integration failures and operational issues through appropriate governance arrangements.

What We're Looking For

You’ll bring a strong understanding of investment technology together with the ability to translate business requirements into robust, reliable application solutions.

  • Portfolio management systems, investment data platforms and reporting tools.
  • Implementing, configuring and testing complex technology solutions.
  • Managing system integrations and third-party technology providers.
  • Understanding investment operations, investment data flows and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Application support, performance optimisation and continual improvement.
  • Working collaboratively with senior stakeholders across technology and investment teams.
  • Producing clear technical documentation and governance reporting.
