Job overview: Wirral Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides statutory Looked After Children’s health services within Cheshire East. Cared for Children is the locally agreed term for Looked After Children. We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated, ambitious and experienced nurse to join the team. These hours are to support the current plus and transition Nurse post holder with bespoke work for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and care leavers. This is a varied and exciting role for an experienced nurse with clinical expertise relating to safeguarding children and young people. You will be a key member of the Safeguarding Children Team in Cheshire East. The role is based in Middlewich; however, travel across the Cheshire East footprint is required.

Main duties of the job: The role will be to support the Named Nurse for safeguarding and Cared for Children to provide a safe and effective health service to Cared for Children +, Unaccompanied asylum seekers and Care Leavers under the care of Cheshire East local authority. To work with the current post holder in supporting young people, unaccompanied asylum seeking children and care leavers to achieve their optimal health. To support the Named Nurse in developing the service and adopting best practice methods of service delivery to ensure that national and local guidelines and requirements are met. Provide specialist advice, support and training on Safeguarding Children to all WCT staff; taking a leading role in matters relating to the health and wellbeing of Cared for Children + and transition to adulthood.

  • Proven post registration experience, in relation to looked after children
  • Experience of implementing change
  • Knowledge of recent NHS legislation, recommendations of the legal framework and statutory guidance in relation to promoting the health and wellbeing of looked after children
  • Experience of planning and completing audit/research
  • Experience of teaching and mentoring staff
  • Experience of undertaking projects
  • Awareness of the national and local priorities and changing trends in specialist area.
  • Knowledge and interest in the effects of trauma on human development.

  • Awareness of transitional arrangements for care leavers
  • Experience of working with migrant children and young people
  • Awareness of risk factors and indicators in relation to missing from home and childhood exploitation
