The Role: We’re looking for a passionate and pragmatic Engineering Manager to shape the future of our software development. You will lead a group of engineers within one or more empowered product squads, fostering a high-performance, inclusive culture and delivering scalable, secure, and customer-centric software solutions. You will report to the Head of Engineering and collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to drive business outcomes and technical excellence. The role blends people leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and engineering best practices, balancing strategic alignment with hands-on support to keep teams productive and growing.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead & Inspire: Line manage a team of 6–10 engineers, support their development through regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching, and performance reviews; drive a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and growth.
  • Align & Deliver: Translate product goals into clear, actionable engineering plans; balance rapid delivery with long-term technical sustainability and guide architectural decisions with tech leads.
  • Cross Functional Leadership: Partner with Product and Design to shape roadmaps, set priorities, and make trade-offs that serve customers and the business; champion pragmatic Agile/Lean practices that enable autonomy and continuous delivery while maintaining alignment.
  • Raise the Bar: Maintain high standards for software quality, security, reliability, and scalability through clear practices, metrics, and reviews; champion engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, DevEx, SPACE) to inform decisions and drive improvement.
  • Scale & Optimise: Ensure teams have the right skills and structure to meet product needs; influence hiring, retention, and internal mobility to build a world-class engineering organization.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Support experimentation, learning, and improvement in engineering workflows; facilitate knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration.

  • Technical Depth: Modern software development experience (cloud-native, microservices, CI/CD, automated testing, observability); able to dive into technical discussions, challenge assumptions, and guide sound decisions.
  • People Management: Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop engineers at all levels; experience in performance management, engagement, and career development; track record of building high-performing Platform Engineering teams.
  • Metrics & Data-Driven Thinking: Skilled in using delivery and engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, flow metrics) to assess and improve performance.
  • Architectural Thinking: Knowledge of distributed systems design (e.g., Domain-Driven Design), scalable architectures, and DevSecOps principles.
  • Culture Builder: Committed to inclusive, diverse teams; lead with empathy to help others grow and thrive.
