We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst (BA) to lead business analysis activities for a trade automation programme. The candidate must have strong knowledge of the UK power trading ecosystem, including Elexon, National Grid ESO, and industry settlement processes, and will play a critical role in bridging trading operations, market mechanisms, and system automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Analysis & Requirement Management: Elicit, analyse, and document requirements for trade automation initiatives. Develop As-Is and To-Be process flows covering:
- Day-Ahead auction participation (Nord Pool, EPEX)
- Intraday trading (EPEX Spot)
- Trade capture, validation, and reconciliation
- Produce high-quality deliverables: BRDs, FRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria.
- UK Power Market & Regulatory Alignment: Apply in-depth understanding of the UK electricity market structure, including:
- Elexon (Balancing & Settlement Code - BSC)
- National Grid ESO (balancing mechanism, system operator role)
- Ensure solutions align with Settlement processes and Market timelines (gate closure, imbalance settlement, nominations). Support mapping of auction trades into imbalance and settlement frameworks.
- System Integration & Data Flows: Collaborate with IT teams to design integrations between:
- ETRM platforms
- Market exchanges (Nord Pool, EPEX APIs/interfaces)
- Forecasting systems (wind, BESS, demand models)
- Define requirements for:
- Trade ingestion and validation
- Price, volume, and settlement data flows
- Reporting and downstream systems
Required Skills & Experience
- Power Market & Domain Expertise (Critical): Strong experience in UK and European power markets. Knowledge of Nord Pool Day-Ahead markets EPEX Spot (Day-Ahead & Intraday). Solid understanding of:
- Elexon and BSC processes
- National Grid ESO operations (Balancing Mechanism, system balancing)
- Settlement lifecycle (metering, imbalance calculation, settlements)
- Business Analysis: Extensive experience as a Senior BA in energy trading / ETRM domain. Strong capability in:
- Requirement elicitation and stakeholder management
- Process modelling (BPMN or similar)
- Documentation (BRD, FRD, user stories, backlog management)
- Technology & Systems: Experience with ETRM systems (Endur/Openlink). Understanding of:
- Data integration (APIs – REST/SOAP)
- SQL / data analysis
- Trade lifecycle systems and workflows
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced trading environment. Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities. Proactive and able to challenge and improve existing processes.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience in trade automation or digital transformation programs.
- Exposure to renewable assets (wind, BESS) integration.
- Automated bidding strategies or algorithmic trading.
- Familiarity with reporting tools (Power BI, dashboards).
- Agile/Scrum certification or experience.
Mandatory Skills
