Role summary: Accountable for translating defined product requirements and operational
workflows into a coherent, usable interaction model, and for delivering it through to production-
ready interface design. The role requires deep understanding of the underlying processes the tool
supports, not surface-level visual execution: it determines how complex, multi-step workflows
become clear screens, states, and transitions.
Scope of the role
• Workflow translation. Develops a working understanding of the operational processes the tool
supports, and converts documented requirements into information architecture, navigation
models, and end-to-end user flows.
• Interaction model ownership. Defines how the product behaves (sequencing, progressive
disclosure, feedback, and recovery paths) so that complex processes remain comprehensible to
the people executing them.
• End-to-end delivery. Progresses problems from flow and wireframe through to production-ready,
high-fidelity specifications, including annotated behavior and responsive treatment.
• Design system stewardship. Builds and maintains a scalable system of reusable components
and design tokens rather than isolated screens, ensuring consistency as the product expands.
• State and edge case design. Defines behavior for empty, loading, error, partial, and permission-
restricted states so the interface remains coherent across the full range of real-world conditions.
• Implementation partnership. Collaborates with engineering throughout build to ensure the
delivered product matches design intent, and resolves constraints as they emerge rather than
after release.
• Accessibility and inclusion. Designs to accessibility standards (contrast ratios, keyboard
navigation, dynamic type, light and dark appearance) validated through testing rather than
assumption.
• Simplicity advocacy. Challenges unnecessary complexity in feature and control design, and
validates proposed solutions against actual user tasks.
Requirements
• 5+ years of product, UI, or UX design experience, including at least one design system taken
from definition through to sustained adoption.
• Portfolio of shipped digital products demonstrating systems-level design thinking, workflow
complexity, and measurable outcomes, not visual work alone.
• Demonstrated experience designing tools for internal or professional users, where efficiency,
data density, and task throughput matter more than visual novelty.
• Proven ability to work from written specifications and to independently define the interaction
detail those specifications leave open.
• Working understanding of front-end implementation constraints: HTML/CSS layout models,
responsive behavior, and design token pipelines.
• Experience designing AI-assisted or data-driven interfaces (including uncertainty, confidence,
and review states) is advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain and defend design
decisions to engineering and stakeholders.
