If you're passionate about building world-class platforms rather than simply keeping them running, this is an opportunity to work at an exceptional scale with some of the brightest engineers and quantitative researchers in the industry.
Our client is one of the world's leading hedge funds, operating a highly distributed, mission-critical technology platform where engineering excellence is a genuine competitive advantage.
Technology, and now AI, sits at the heart of the business, and engineers are trusted to own complex technical problems from concept through to production.
Unlike large financial institutions, the organisation is deliberately lean, collaborative and non-hierarchical.
There are very few organisational silos, giving senior engineers genuine ownership, direct access to stakeholders, and the opportunity to influence technology strategy while delivering solutions that directly impact research productivity and trading performance.
The Opportunity
This team focuses on Platform Engineering, Developer Experience and AI-enabled Infrastructure, separated from the traditional Core Infrastructure function to accelerate engineering innovation across the business.
The team is responsible for building the platforms, tooling and automation that enable hundreds of engineers, quantitative researchers (and other business stakeholders) to develop, deploy and operate software more efficiently.
You'll work closely with Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Quant Development, Infrastructure and Research teams to remove friction, improve productivity and help shape the next generation of the firm's platform.
This is far more than traditional Linux administration or Kubernetes operations.
You'll be designing platforms, improving CI/CD, expanding Git Ops capabilities, integrating modern AI engineering tools, and automating infrastructure at scale.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build and evolve large-scale Kubernetes and Linux platforms supporting critical research and production workloads.
- Continue to deliver and improve the firm's world-class Gen AI Platform.
- Improve developer productivity through modern Developer Experience (Dev Ex) tooling and automation.
- Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines using Git Lab and Git Ops principles.
- Drive infrastructure automation across provisioning, deployment, configuration and operational workflows.
- Integrate cutting-edge AI engineering tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, MCP-based tooling and other emerging developer technologies.
- Partner directly with software engineers, quantitative developers and Core infrastructure teams to deliver highly scalable engineering platforms.
- Contribute to production reliability, observability and operational excellence across a complex distributed environment.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years' experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Dev Ops or Site Reliability Engineering.
- Demonstrably passionate about Technology and AI. Don't just say you're passionate, prove it to us.
- Mastery of Kubernetes, operating production on-premise environments.
- Mastery of Linux systems debugging and troubleshooting.
- Strong CI/CD experience using Git Lab together with Git Ops workflows.
- Experience building internal developer platforms, developer tooling or improving Developer Experience
- Automation Mastery using Python, Bash, Go, Power Shell or similar (bespoke scripting).
- Native level English communication skills (verbal and written). Must have a track record working with and communicating with various teams on projects
- Extremely methodical and structured problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Financial Services experience is welcome but not essential.
Why Join?
You'll be joining one of the most technologically sophisticated investment firms in the world (truly), where engineering excellence genuinely matters, and infrastructure is treated as a product rather than a support function.
The environment offers
- Engineering challenges at genuine enterprise scale.
- Modern cloud-native technologies and distributed systems.
- Significant investment in AI tooling and developer productivity.
- End-to-end ownership with minimal bureaucracy.
- Direct collaboration with world-class engineers and quantitative researchers.
- Outstanding career progression and long-term technical growth.
- Market-leading compensation (£500k-£600k PA - no deferrals)
- 10% pension, Health/Dental/Life Insurance, free Gym and Restaurant, annual learning budget, 25 days holiday, 1 day wfh p/w
