Senior Data Software Engineer with expertise in Python, SQL, databases, Linux, and Docker sought by one of the early Systematic Hedge Funds – an award-winning firm renowned for their collaborative and friendly culture. You will join a six-person Data Engineering team as one of the more senior engineers so owning projects and helping lead and mentor junior team members. The team have a broad remit across ingestion, storage, transformation, and distribution of tick, timeseries, reference and alternative datasets. The technology stack is similarly varied including a range of legacy and modern systems, across on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The business is currently midway through massive technology modernisation therefore there is ample opportunity to work on greenfield projects and with new technologies. We are looking for someone passionate about technology who stays current with industry trends, follows engineering best practices, and is always looking for opportunities to improve systems, processes, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Developing ELT / ETL pipelines to ingest and transform datasets with Python, Snowflake and dbt.
  • Building a streaming platform (Kafka, Flink, Iceberg) to capture and aggregate large volumes of tick data.
  • Consolidating legacy systems onto a next-generation cloud-native technology stack.
  • Working closely with quantitative developers, researchers and portfolio managers.
  • Supporting Java-based live data feed handlers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years working as a Software Engineer and/or Data Engineer.
  • Strong expertise in Python, SQL and a good understanding of relational databases.
  • Confident working with Linux and Docker.
  • AWS experience preferred.
  • An excellent communicator, ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Skills in Java and/or Kafka, Flink and Iceberg preferred.
  • Cloud Data Warehousing experience preferred, especially using Snowflake.
  • Financial experience – especially in relation to Buy Side, Electronic Trading and Market Data Vendors and APIs.
