An exciting opportunity has arisen at our award-winning practice. We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and fast-growing team. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the surgery, supporting the delivery of high-quality clinical and administrative services. Additional training will be provided where required to support your development and scope of practice. Main duties of the job
- To support the practice nursing and administrative teams in delivering clinical and non-clinical services to the registered patient population, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- The Healthcare Assistant will assist in the delivery of treatment, preventative care, health promotion, and patient education within their scope of practice.
- The role will also involve supporting the administrative team as required to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

Our multidisciplinary team includes GP Partners, a Salaried GP, Clinical Pharmacists, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, GP Assistants, Care Coordinators, and Social Prescribers, supported by a well‐organised reception and administrative team. We use modern clinical systems including EMIS Web, AccuRx, and Docman 10 to support efficient and effective patient care.
Job responsibilities
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes.
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required.
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics.
- Carry out BMI checks as directed.
- Act as a chaperone as required.
- Carry out ECGs as requested.
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation.
- Provide support during minor operations as required.
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy.
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
Secondary responsibilities
- Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead.
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
- Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation.
- Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota.
Qualifications
- Healthcare qualification (Level 3 or Level 4) or working towards an equivalent qualification.
- Phlebotomy certification or relevant training in venepuncture.
- Experience of working with the general public.
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
- Competence in performing ECGs.
- Ability to carry out clinical observations, including height, weight, blood pressure, and pulse.
- Knowledge and ability to act as a chaperone in line with practice policy.
- Ability to record accurate and timely clinical notes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong IT skills, including use of clinical systems.
- Clear, polite, and professional telephone manner.
- Experience administering vaccinations, including seasonal influenza (flu) and vitamin B12 injections.
- Completion of the Care Certificate (HCA), in line with GP Mythbuster No. 57 HCAs in General Practice.
- Vaccination certification or immunisation training (including relevant updates).
- Experience of working in a primary care (GP practice) environment.
- Experience in wound care, including dressing changes and removal of sutures and staples.
