We are seeking an experienced Electrical Supervisor with a strong background in High Voltage (HV) Substation construction, installation, testing, and commissioning. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising electrical works on National Grid substation projects, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.

The role requires excellent leadership skills, a proactive approach to health and safety, and extensive knowledge of UK electrical regulations and HV systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate electrical installation activities on HV substation projects (132kV to 400kV).
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with project specifications, drawings, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Manage site-based electrical teams, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
  • Monitor progress against programme and report updates to project management.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, site briefings, and safety inspections.
  • Review and interpret electrical schematics, protection drawings, cable schedules, and construction drawings.
  • Oversee installation of primary and secondary plant equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection panels, control systems, CTs, VTs, and associated cabling.
  • Coordinate testing and commissioning activities with engineers and commissioning teams.
  • Maintain accurate site records, inspection reports, and quality documentation.
  • Support project delivery by identifying and resolving technical and operational issues.
  • Liaise with clients, DNOs, National Grid representatives, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with current legislation and industry standards.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience as an Electrical Supervisor on High Voltage Substation projects within the UK.
  • Extensive knowledge of HV electrical systems, substations, switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems.
  • Experience supervising electrical installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Qualifications
  • National Grid Person (essential) and/or Competent Person (desirable).
  • ECS Gold Card.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • Current BS 7671 Qualification (18th Edition).
  • First Aid at Work (desirable).
