Engineering Supervisor East Lancashire Up to £55,000 DOE Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:30 Permanent
The Company: Our client is a well-established FMCG manufacturing business operating in a high-pressure production environment with a strong focus on quality, compliance and continuous improvement. The site operates with strict standards across food safety, engineering reliability and operational performance, and engineering plays a critical role in maintaining uptime and production continuity. They are now seeking an Engineering Supervisor to take ownership of the site engineering function, lead a multi-skilled team and drive performance across maintenance, compliance and continuous improvement activities.
The Role: The Engineering Supervisor will take full responsibility for the day-to-day engineering operation, leading the engineering team and ensuring all machinery, equipment and site services are safe, compliant and operating at optimum efficiency. This is a hands-on leadership role with accountability for planned maintenance, breakdown response, engineering standards, contractor control, compliance and engineering led improvement activity. You will report to the Operations Director and work closely with production leadership to ensure maximum uptime and minimal disruption to manufacturing.
- Lead, manage and develop the engineering team, ensuring capability, performance and engagement
- Own and manage the site PPM system ensuring full compliance and timely completion of planned maintenance
- Take accountability for rapid response to breakdowns and effective root cause resolution
- Drive reduction in downtime through analysis, problem solving and implementation of preventative actions
- Oversee mechanical and electrical fault finding and support hands-on repair where required
- Manage external contractors for specialist maintenance, servicing and engineering projects
- Lead commissioning of new machinery, equipment and site improvement projects
- Contribute to capital investment decisions including machinery selection, installation and upgrades
- Manage engineering spares strategy ensuring availability while controlling cost and stock levels
- Ensure all equipment is safe, compliant and fully fit for purpose at all times
- Maintain compliance with Health and Safety legislation, GMP, HACCP and QMS standards
- Take ownership of site engineering standards including guarding, risk reduction and audit readiness
- Manage effluent systems ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements
- Analyse downtime data and implement structured improvement plans to improve reliability
- Produce monthly engineering reports covering performance, downtime, spend and improvement activity
- Manage engineering budget and ensure spend is controlled, justified and aligned with site priorities
- Work closely with production teams to coordinate downtime and minimise operational impact
- Support recruitment, onboarding and development of engineering personnel including apprentices
- Act as engineering representative in daily production meetings and site communications
The Person: Strong background in FMCG, food manufacturing or fast-paced production environments. Proven experience leading or supervising engineering or maintenance teams. Strong understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems. Confident fault finding and problem solving in live production environments. Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, QMS and Health and Safety compliance. Experience managing contractors and external engineering support. Ability to analyse downtime and implement structured improvement activity. Confident managing budgets, cost control and engineering spend. Strong communicator with the ability to work across production, engineering and management teams. Hands-on leadership style with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Organised, methodical and able to prioritise in a high-pressure environment.
