We are recruiting on behalf of a long-established precision engineering and tooling business based in Stockport, recognised globally for delivering complex engineered solutions across the aerospace, defence, nuclear and advanced manufacturing sectors. Operating from a large, modern manufacturing facility, the business specialises in precision tooling, jigs, fixtures, bespoke engineered systems and advanced CNC machining solutions for globally recognised OEM customers. Due to continued growth and investment, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Machine Tool Fitter to support the maintenance, installation, repair and continuous improvement of CNC machine tools and associated manufacturing equipment across the facility.

THE ROLE

This is a hands-on, split mechanical and electrical maintenance role focused on supporting the performance, reliability and uptime of CNC machine tools and production equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, breakdown response, fault finding, repair and machine installation activities across a range of CNC machining centres, milling machines, lathes and associated production equipment. This role would suit a mechanically biased engineer with strong electrical fault-finding capability, or an electrically biased engineer with strong mechanical maintenance experience within CNC or precision engineering environments.

  • Support CNC machine alignment, calibration and geometry checks
  • Strip, repair and rebuild machine tool assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Assist with machine installations, relocations and commissioning activities
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime and improve machine reliability
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and support continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with Health & Safety and engineering standards

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Previous experience within a Machine Tool Fitter, CNC Maintenance Engineer or Maintenance Engineer role
  • Strong understanding of CNC machine tools and manufacturing equipment
  • Mechanical and electrical maintenance experience within precision engineering or manufacturing environments
  • Ability to fault find on CNC machinery and associated control systems
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, bearings and drive systems
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
  • Apprentice-trained background preferred
  • Flexible and proactive approach with strong problem-solving skills

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Fanuc, Heidenhain or Siemens controlled machinery
  • CNC machining centres, lathes or multi-axis machines
  • PLC fault finding
  • Machine geometry and alignment work
  • Experience within aerospace, defence or precision engineering sectors

WHAT'S ON OFFER

  • Competitive salary depending on experience
  • Overtime available at premium rates
  • Secure long-term opportunity within a highly respected engineering business
  • Modern manufacturing environment with continued investment in machinery and technology
  • Opportunity to work on advanced manufacturing and aerospace engineering projects
